PEKIN ~ Virgil Charles “Buck” Warden, 83, of Pekin, passed away at 2:45 a.m. Sunday, July 9, 2017 at his home.

Born November 4, 1933 in Jefferson City, Missouri to Elmer and Alma Helen (Ousley) Warden, he married Darlene Joan (Purdy) Moore on April 18, 1970 in Pekin.  She survives.

Also surviving are two step-sons, Ronald (Angela) Moore of Duncan, Arizona and Dennis (Donna) Moore of Delaware City, Delaware; five step-grandchildren; and eleven step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Jerome Warden.

A United States Army veteran of the Korean War and Vietnam War, he served for 10 years and was honorably discharged on August 10, 1965 attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Buck had worked out of Laborer’s Local #231 in Pekin for many years, working for D.J. Mahoney Construction in Pekin.  He retired on November 4, 1995.

He was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin.

Buck enjoyed watching sports and was a St. Louis Cardinal’s fan.  In the past, he enjoyed playing cards, volleyball, tennis, bowling, painting and golf.  He was known for his laughter and jokes.

His funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 13, 2017 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin with Father Michael Andrejek as the celebrant. There will be no visitation.  Burial will be at Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Pekin, where military rites will be accorded by the United States Army and Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team.

Arrangements are by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
