PEKIN ~ Rosemary E. Rushford, 88, of Pekin, passed away at 8:50 p.m. Monday June 18, 2018 at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.

Born April 2, 1930 in East Peoria to Maurice H. and Mary W. (DeFord) Braden, she married Robert J. Rushford on April 21, 1951 in Lewiston.  He died June 9, 1998 in Peoria.  She also was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Judith A. Morris.

Surviving are one son, Michael A. (Kris) Rushford of Littleton, Colorado; two daughters, Jane E. (Thomas Trompeter) Rushford of Olympia, Washington and Robyn R. O’Shaughnessy of Pekin; four grandchildren, Meagan L. (Jordan) Howell of Littleton, Colorado, Dr. Braden R. O’Shaughnessy of Redding, California, Mitchell R. (Rachel Head) O’Shaughnessy and Madalyn R. O’Shaughnessy, both of Pekin; one great-grandson, Andrew Troy Howell; two beloved sisters, Laura Jan (Robert) Howard of Hanna City and Kathleen L. Badgerow of Brainard, Minnesota, and many treasured nieces, nephews and friends.

Rosemary attended Bradley University and graduated from the Methodist School of Nursing in 1959.  She loved being the school nurse for Pekin Community High School District 303 at East Campus from 1967 to 1972.  She previously worked at Methodist Medical Center and Pekin Hospital.

She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Pekin and the United Methodist Women of her church.  She was a former member of First Christian Church and Past President of their Christian Women’s Fellowship.  She also was a Past President of Church Women United and a member and Past President of Chapter L.M. of the P.E.O. Sisterhood.

Per her wishes, private services will be held with inurnment at Prairie Haven Cemetery in Pekin.  Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes and Crematory in Pekin is assisting the family with the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund, 601 North 4th Street, Pekin, IL 61554 or to the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home, 8630 Illinois Route 91, Peoria, IL 61615.

The family would like to thank the Villas of Hollybrook in Pekin, OSF Hospice and the staff and nurses at the hospice home for the special care they provided to Rosemary.
