PEKIN ~ Rose Marie Bliss, 74, of Weston, Wyoming, passed away at 9:20 p.m. Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Sherman Home Hospice of the Valley in Phoenix, Arizona. She was formerly of Pekin.

Born February 25, 1944 in Pekin to John Lee and LaVerna (Maxwell) Ranney, she married James Ireland Bliss. He survives.

Also surviving are two sons, William Ireland (Gretchen) Bliss of Johnson-Bliss of Powell, Ohio and Rodger (Susan) Bliss of Lakewood Ranch, Florida and one grandson, Joshua Bliss of Gold Beach, Oregon. She also helped Amzad Hossian come to the United States from Bangladesh to become a citizen and become a part of the family.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Rose was a graduate of Richwoods High School in Peoria. She received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois, where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority.

She taught 2nd grade and enjoyed reading, traveling, playing bridge, sewing, cats, cheese and working crossword puzzles. She had a love for history and served as a docent at the Phoenix Art Museum.

Her memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 2, 2018 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Steve Weber will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
