PEKIN ~ Peggy Taylor Johnson, 75, of Springfield, passed away at 12:33 p.m. Thursday, June 22, 2017 at her daughters’ home in Pekin.

She was born December 17, 1941 in Ft. Pillow, TN to Sam E. and Ernestine (Stephens) Taylor. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward Johnson and 12 brothers and sisters.

Surviving are two daughters, Robin (Gary) Gardner and Trudy (James) Dodson, both of Pekin; one son, Rich (Laura) Manka of Williamsville; nine grandchildren, Trisha Bumbalough, Marcus Wheeler, Caleb Dodson, Mallory Dodson, Clage Dodson, Tyler Campo, Tate Manka, Rylee Manka and Rhett Wilson; 10 great-grandchildren and three brothers, Danny (Michelle) Taylor, Sam Taylor and Tom Taylor, all of TN.

Peggy had worked at the Secretary of State’s Office in Springfield for 20 years, retiring in 2007.

She was a former member of the Springfield Deaf Club. Peggy was a 1961 graduate of Illinois School for the Deaf in Jacksonville. She loved the outdoors, taking care of her plants, gardening and her dogs.

Cremation has been accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. There will be no services or visitation.
