CREVE COEUR ~ Margaret Anne “Margie” Ashburn, 72, of Creve Coeur, passed away at her home Saturday, September 23, 2017.

Born November 4, 1944 in Peoria to James and Wilma (Raker) Gallagher, she married Edward G. Ashburn, Jr. on May 23, 1965 in Creve Coeur. He died May 7, 2017. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and one daughter, Angela on February 10, 2016.

Surviving are one daughter, Katharine Ashburn of Newton, IA; three sons, Kenneth (Barb) Ashburn of Creve Coeur, Douglas (Nancy) Ashburn of LaGrange and Christopher (Beth Coulman) Ashburn of Accomac, VA; three grandchildren, Preston, Colin and Audrey; two sisters, Mary “Pat” (Gordon) Rule of Bowling Green, MO and Denise (Brad) Ogborn of Washington; and one brother, Mike (Teri) Gallagher of Peoria.

Margie spent 25 years as an administrative assistant for Creve Coeur School District 76 until her retirement in 1997. Early in her career, Margie worked for the Village of Creve Coeur Police Department.

For 30 years she performed with two local clogging groups, Heartland Cloggers and River Valley Cloggers, where she also served as a dance instructor. She appeared with the cloggers in hundreds of performances throughout the Midwest, including over 100 performances of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at Eastlight Theater in East Peoria.

 Margie was a 50-year member of Bethel Memorial United Church of Christ in Creve Coeur.  For the last 20 years she served as president of the church's women's fellowship committee. She also loved to golf, and spent many seasons as a member of the Fon du Lac Golf Course Ladies' League. 

 Her memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at Bethel Memorial United Church of Christ. Pastor Dwight Borden will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday evening at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Creve Coeur. Additional visitation will be from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Tuesday morning at the church.
