CREVE COEUR ~ Larry Eugene Massie, 77, of Creve Coeur, passed away at 11:05 a.m. Friday, September 14, 2018 at his home.

Born March 27, 1941 in Bourbon to Raymond and Susie (Knight) Massie, he married Dora Harvey on March 16, 1960 in Tuscola. She survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Doreen Carpenter of Peoria and Karen Massie and Corine (Mike) Wilson, both of Creve Coeur; one son, Larry (Rita) Massie of Clarksville, Tennessee; 23 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and eight siblings, Hershel, Martha, Sherry, Phillip, Robert, Rodney, Porter and Kathy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ed and two sisters, Mary and Liz.

Larry retired from Caterpillar, Inc. in East Peoria in 1993 after 30 years working as a millwright. He was a member of UAW Local 974.

A loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Larry didn’t know a stranger. His family and church were the center of his life and he wasn’t afraid to witness to anyone. He loved fishing and was a collector and fixer of everything, a jack of all trades.

Larry was a member of First Baptist Church in Creve Coeur, where he served as a Deacon.

His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 21, 2018 at First Baptist Church in Creve Coeur. Pastor David Lynn will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Creve Coeur. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to First Baptist Church, 425 Rusche Avenue, Creve Coeur, Illinois 61610.
