BARTONVILLE ~ Dr. Kurt Franz Whais, 65, of Bartonville, passed away at 2:37 p.m. Sunday, March 11, 2018 at his home.

Born April 8, 1952 in Buffalo, NY to Walter and Florence (Zions) Whais, he married Kathy V. Miles on April 26, 2003 in Groveland. She died January 29, 2010 in Peoria Heights. He was also preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Danielle Whais in 2002 and one son, Greg Whais in 2006.

Surviving are one son, Bryan (Brittany) Whais of Mt. Cobb, PA; one daughter, Nicole (Mike) Farr of North Ogden, UT; three step-daughters, Karissa Miles of Peoria, Kathey Miles of Bloomington and Karyn Miles of Pekin; 13 grandchildren and one brother, Marc (Kathie) Whais of Hamburg, NY.

Kurt was a veteran of the United States Army Medical Corps., serving from 1979 to 1987 and a current member of Bartonville American Legion Post 979.

He was a 1974 graduate of the University of Brockport, NY earning his Bachelor of Science Degree. He then attended Illinois College of Podiatric Medicine earning his DPM in 1979.

Kurt was a Dr. of Podiatry in the Peoria and Pekin area beginning in 1988 until his retirement in 2018. He was currently working as a pharmacy tech at Kroger in Bartonville.

An avid outdoorsman, Kurt enjoyed hunting, fishing and target shooting. He also enjoyed woodworking, welding and helping with the Boy Scouts. Kurt’s greatest enjoyment was cooking and canning.

Kurt was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Pekin, where his funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 17, 2018. Bishop Clinton J. Pincock will preside over the service. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday evening at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery, where military rites will be provided by the United States Army and the Elmwood American Legion Post 638.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the American Heart Association, 2141 W. White Oaks Dr. #A, Springfield, IL 62704.
