HOPEDALE ~ Joy Kathryn Calvert, 91, of Hopedale, passed away at 11:10 p.m. Friday, January 5, 2018 at the Hopedale Nursing Home.

Born July 4, 1926 in Maywood to Nels and Violet (Bacon) Larsen, she married William J. Calvert on March 29, 1947 in Springfield.  He died August 27, 2017 in Hopedale.  She was also preceded in death by her parents; one son, Joel Richard Calvert; and one grandson, Jeffrey T. Calvert.

Surviving are four children, Dr. Nels E. (Linda) Calvert of Pekin, Susan A. Troxell of Pekin, William J. (Susan) Calvert of Berwyn and James A. (Sheryl) Calvert of Navesink, New Jersey; seven grandchildren, Nels M. Calvert of Pekin, Kyle (Amanda) Calvert of Bloomington, Indiana, Shannon (Kevin) Osuchowski of Bolingbrook, Whitney (Michael Stower) Calvert of Peoria, Kristen (Bruno Carvallo) Calvert of Hanover Park, Justin (Angie) Calvert of Tinton Falls, New Jersey and Carly (Craig Cannon) Calvert of Navesink, New Jersey; four great-grandchildren, Kyleigh, Adaline, Sophia and Nicky; and one brother, Kenneth (Nancy) Larsen of Savannah, Georgia.

Mrs. Calvert was a homemaker, however during World War II she had worked as a night inventory clerk at a manufacturing plant in Maywood.

Mrs. Calvert enjoyed sewing and baking.  After her husband’s retirement, she and her husband enjoyed time traveling to Canada fishing in the summer, wintering in Florida and keeping in touch with family and grandkids in between.  They later resided in Punta Gorda, Florida full time for more than 18 years before moving to Hopedale in 2014.

She had been a member of the Presbyterian Church in Brookfield and the Red Hat Society in Florida.  She had been an election polling judge for many years.

A family visitation will be held at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin with burial at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Hillside.
