GREEN VALLEY ~ John Walter “Jay” Baumberger, 53, of Green Valley, passed away at 6:13 a.m. Monday, May 1, 2017 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Born March 28, 1964 in Tallahassee, FL to Robert and Katie (Brumfiel) Baumberger, he married Sheila Highley on July 15, 2000 in Bradenton, FL. She survives.

Also surviving are his mother, Katie Root of St. Petersburg, FL; his father, Robert Baumberger of Ocala, FL; one daughter, Erika (Brad) Holcomb of Rosharon, TX; five grandchildren, Jevin Francis of Green Valley and Ethan, Keila, Evander and Lanah Holcomb, all of Rosharon, TX;  two siblings, Jeanne (Sean) Conner of St. Petersburg, FL and Robert (Sandy) Baumberger of Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his step-mother, Georgine Baumberger and step-father, Charles Root.

Jay worked in maintenance at the Children’s Home in Peoria since November 2014.

He was a very artistic carpenter with a quirky sense of humor. He loved to laugh and make others laugh as well. Jay had a love for all animals and his job. His greatest joy in life, was being a Papa.

His funeral will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 4, 2017 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Steve Weber will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 6:45 p.m. at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at a later date at Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria.
