CREVE COEUR ~ John Henry Starr, 82, of Creve Coeur, passed away at 10:50 a.m. Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at his home.

Born July 22, 1934 in Pekin to James Russell and Catherine Alice (Campion) Starr, he married Darleen Lavonne Fry in May of 1963.  She died September 9, 2013 in Peoria.  He was also preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Bernard Starr, Benny Starr, and Timothy Starr; and two sisters, Joan Truman and Nola Starr in infancy.

Surviving are two sons, John Starr, Jr. and Russell Starr, both of Creve Coeur; four granddaughters, Dollye Starr, Emma Starr, Grace Starr, and Lucy Starr; two brothers, Robert (Catherine) Starr of Caledonia, Mississippi and Joseph Starr of East Peoria; and one sister, Shirley Weihmeir of Creve Coeur.

He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War and attained the rank of Staff Sargent.

John was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local #399 in Chicago.  He had worked for Illinois-American Water Company for over 20 years before retiring.

He was a long-time member of Sacre Coeur Catholic Church in Creve Coeur and presently was a member of Saint Monica Catholic Church in East Peoria.

John enjoyed duck hunting, fishing, and gardening.

His funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at Saint Monica Catholic Church, 303 Campanile Drive, East Peoria.  Abbott Philip Davey of Saint Bede Abbey in Peru will be the celebrant.  Visitation will be from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday at the church.  Burial will be at Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Pekin.
