PEKIN ~ Janet Lea Skinner, 60, of Pekin, passed away at 2 a.m. Friday, May 25, 2018 at UnityPoint Health – Methodist in Peoria.

She was born August 31, 1957 in Pekin to Rodney Lloyd and Sylvia Jean (Roberts) Sandrock.  Her parents preceded her in death.  She married Steven Lee Skinner on June 20, 1981 at First Missionary Church in North Pekin. 

Surviving are her husband, Steven Skinner of Pekin; two daughters, Laura (James) McMullen of Sebring, Florida and Carol Skinner of Pekin; one grandson, James “J.W.” McMullen; and her twin sister, Jeanine (Bill, Jr.) Creech of East Peoria.

Janet was a 1975 graduate of Pekin Community High School and a 1979 graduate of Bradley University in Peoria.  She received her Master’s degree from Saint Xavier University in Chicago.

Janet was a teacher for North Pekin / Marquette Heights School District #102 for the past 24 years, last working as a 3rd grade teacher at Rogers Elementary School in Marquette Heights.

She attended Northwoods Community Church in Peoria and was a member of the church’s prayer team.  She was a former member of First Missionary Church in North Pekin.

Janet will be remembered for being loving, positive, selfless person and always thinking of others before herself.  Her Christian strength helped her get through her 10 years of cancer.

Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 1, 2018 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.  Pastor Jerry Blanchard will officiate.  Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.  Private inurnment will be at Prairie Haven Cemetery in Pekin.
