CREVE COEUR ~ Rev. James F. Williams, 86, of Creve Coeur, passed away at 8:10 a.m. Friday, December 15, 2017 at Fondulac Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in East Peoria.

Born January 19, 1931 in Portland, Michigan to Fred J. and Cara L. (Spatzel) Williams, he married Marilyn H. Sarns on October 23, 1983 in Mt. Clemons, Michigan.  She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Robert S. (Sharon) Williams, both of Grand Rapids, Michigan and David J. Williams of Port St. Lucie, Florida; two daughters, Robyn S. (William) Noordyk of Grand Rapids, Michigan and Karyn B. (James) Erb of Bradley, Michigan; two step-sons, Robert (Lisa) Merlo of Chillicothe and Daniel (Tara) Merlo of Chicago; two step daughters, Susan (Steve) Sheldon of Cary, North Carolina and Nancy (Glen) Moss of Elgin; seven grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; one great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his only brother, Rodney Williams and a daughter-in-law, Kristy (David J.) Williams.

Jim attended Bay City Jr. College and graduated with his Bachelor’s Degree in Theology from Olivet College in Olivet, Michigan in 1957.  He later graduated from the Graduate School of Theology of Oberlin College at Vanderbilt University with a Master of Divinity Degree in 1963.

Jim pastored churches in the United Church of Christ in Illinois, Michigan and Ohio.  His last pastorate was with Bethel Memorial United Church of Christ in Creve Coeur from 1985 until retiring in 1996. 

An Eagle Scout, Jim devoted a great deal of time to Amateur Radio as a faithful volunteer for the Tazewell County Emergency Management Agency.

Private family services will be held with inurnment in Floral Gardens Cemetery in Bay City, Michigan.  Cremation has been accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Creve Coeur.

His family requests no flowers or donations, but would appreciate your prayers.
