CREVE COEUR ~ Herbert L. Sparkman, 87 of Creve Coeur, passed away at 4:05 p.m. Sunday, August 28, 2016 at his home. 

Born January 29, 1929 in Streator to Claude and Ellee (Morris) Sparkman, he married Rose Fox on September 16, 1950 in East Peoria.  She died April 10, 2016 in Peoria.  Also preceding him in death are his parents and two daughters, Deanna Hieronymus and Denise Harris. 

Surviving are two daughters, Debra Osmundson of Creve Coeur, Delinda Rentsch of Pekin; five grandchildren, Jennifer (Ben) Thompson of Livingston, MT, Andrea Hieronymus of East Peoria, Andrew Osmundson and Jason Osmundson, both of Peoria and Tommy Hieronymus of East Peoria; two great-granddaughters, Anissa and Autumn Hieronymus, both of East Peoria and three sisters, Virginia Snyder of Peoria, Joyce (Louis) Moore of Peoria and Peggy Bennett of Tucson, AZ. 

Herb had worked for Caterpillar, Inc. in East Peoria in maintenance as a tinsmith.  He retired in 1982 after 35 years.

He had served in the United States Naval Reserves. 

Herb was a former member of First United Methodist Church in East Peoria. 

He had a love for being outdoors.  He enjoyed fishing and hunting, particularly pheasants and duck.  A jokester, Herb was also known as a “putzer” or “Jack of all trades”.  He could fix anything or create things out of items that others would consider junk.  In his early years, he enjoyed playing football and basketball, but his real passion was baseball. 

His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 3, 2016 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.  Pastor Chad Nightingale will officiate.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.  Burial will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to OSF Hospice, 2265 West Altorfer Drive, Peoria, IL 61615.
