PEKIN ~ Gladys Elizabeth Taylor, 90, of Pekin, passed away peacefully at 6:34 p.m. Thursday, June 29, 2017 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Born July 12, 1926 in Morton to George and Ella Jane (Shields) Fischer, she married Philip Leitner.  She later married Kenneth Taylor.  He preceded her in death.  She was also preceded in death by her parents; one grandson; two great-grandchildren; five sisters, Margaret Adami, Anna Stovall, Norma Meads, Georgia Watson, and Velma Fischer; and one brother, George Fischer, Jr.

Surviving are five children, Darrell (Carolyn)  Leitner of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, Marcia (Rocky) DeWitt of Pekin, Theresa Payne of Green Valley, Sharon (Mark) Biddle of Fredericksburg, Virginia, and Robin Lowe of Pekin; sixteen grandchildren; forty-seven great-grandchildren; thirteen great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Barbara Crowley of Diamond Bar, California; and brother-in-law, Dutch Stovall of Manito.

Gladys had worked at Pekin Hospital as a CNA on the Pediatric floor and then as a manager of Hot Sam’s in the Pekin Mall.  She later worked as a pharmacy tech at Revco/CVS and lastly as a sales clerk at Bergner’s, retiring at the age of 80. 

She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church in Pekin.

Gladys loved her family and devoted her life to spending time with them.  In past years, she enjoyed bowling, traveling, playing cards and working puzzles.

Her graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.  Pastor Brad Martin of First Baptist Church will officiate.  There will be no visitation. 

Arrangements are by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
