PEKIN ~ Ellene Lisanby, 85, of Pekin, passed away at 12:16 p.m. Thursday, April 27, 2017 at Autumn Accolade in Green Valley.

Born June 29, 1931 in Caldwell County, Kentucky to Garvis and Eva Pearl (Murray) Pinnegar, she married Howard Ellis Lisanby on May 20, 1951 in Princeton, KY. He survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Janice (Jerry) O’Bleness of East Peoria, Rita (Roger) Klundt of Pekin and Rhonda Hibdon of Louisville, KY; one son, Kevin Lisanby of Pekin; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren: one brother, James (Wilma) Pinnegar of Springfield and one sister, Barbara (Jim) Maroney of Tiskilwa.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Eva; father and step-mother, Garvis and Sarah; one grandson, Stephen Slaton; three sisters, Louise Brown, Margie Pinnegar and Mildred Cole and two brothers, Chester and Calvin Pinnegar.

Ellene and her husband were also the foster parents of 10 children.

She retired in 1991 as a Caseworker from the Illinois Dept. of Public Aid in Peoria after 25 years of service.

Ellene was a longtime member of Liberty Baptist Church in Pekin, where she was a devoted Sunday School teacher, bus ministry worker for over a decade, a member of the choir and the Liberty Belles. She was the organizer of the Hot Pots and a member of the Women’s Missionary Union.

She also taught English as a second language, was a children’s camp cook and a volunteer for Victory Acres.

Her funeral will at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at Liberty Baptist Church. Pastor Roger Lipe will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Burial will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
