NORTH PEKIN ~ Dorothy Louise (Newlun) Mulligan, 91, of North Pekin, passed away at 6:15 a.m. Monday, August 7, 2017 at her home.

Born April 24, 1926 in Pekin, she was the daughter of Denny and Amanda (Simpson) Jones, she married Clarence Earl Newlun on March 12, 1946 in Pekin.  He died November 9, 1979.  She later married Harold E. “Gene” Reaves on January 30, 1982 in Pekin.  He died May 1, 1991.  She last married Virgil D. Mulligan on February 14, 1998 in North Pekin.  He died March 1, 2007.  She was also preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Scott Newlun; infant daughter, Sue Newlun; three brothers, Edward Sea, Nelson Sea, and Wilbur Sea; one granddaughter; and one great-grandson.

Surviving are her five children, Judy Smith of Pekin, Gary Newlun of North Pekin, Carol (Steve) Arms of Pekin, Barb (Stan) Angle of Creve Coeur, and Bonnie (Scott) Beard of San Bernardino, California; fourteen grandchildren; thirty-seven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Dorothy had worked as a sales clerk at Allen’s Vogue in downtown Pekin and later at the Pekin Mall during the 1980’s.  Her most rewarding job was being a professional homemaker, where she could cook and care for her family.  She was known for her famous chocolate chip cookies.  Dorothy was an avid roller skater up to the age of 90.  She also enjoyed camping, gardening, and embroidering.

She was a member of the Paul Towne Memorial AMVETS Post #169 Ladies Auxiliary in North Pekin and the Red Hat Society Golden Girls Chapter in Pekin.

Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.  The Rev. John Plunkett will officiate.  Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.  Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.
