PEKIN ~ David Perry Berardi, 76, of Pekin, passed away at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, July 1, 2017 at Heartland Health Care Center in Peoria.

Born August 18, 1940 in Pekin to Philip Albert and Priscilla Blanche (Hart) Berardi, he married Barbara Ann Trueblood on March 8, 1969 in Macomb.  She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Christopher (Misty) Berardi of Pekin and Michael (Crystal) Berardi of College Station, Texas; eight grandchildren, Anastasia McMullen of Pekin, Abigail Berardi of Hopedale, Nicholas Berardi of Morton, Christopher Berardi, Jr. of Pekin, Cyrus Newsome of College Station, Angelique Gallegos of Pekin, Cayman Berardi of College Station and Nino Gallegos of Pekin; one sister, Phyllis (Bill) Rafferty of West Peoria and one brother, Warren Berardi of Marquette Heights.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Maria Wiggins.

He served in the United States Air Force from June 5, 1958 to November 8, 1965.

A 1958 graduate of Pekin Community High School, Dave graduated with his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Accountancy in 1969 from Western Illinois University.  He started his career with McGladery, Hansen, Dunn & Company in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on August 25, 1969.  Dave earned his Certified Public Accountant designation in 1971.  Dave later left public accounting and worked for Huskee Bilt Construction Company in Monmouth for 9 years.  He joined Pekin Energy Company in 1981 as the manager of accounting.  On April 10, 1986 he was promoted to comptroller.  He retired from Williams in 2000 as controller of the plant in Pekin.  In retirement, he worked part-time for H&R Block for 3 years and at Lick Creek Golf Course in the Pro Shop.  He was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and a former member of the Rotary Club of Pekin.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Pekin, where he formerly sang in the Sanctuary Choir, served as an usher, was a past member and chairman of the Finance Committee.  He also had served on other committees of the church and was a member of the Methodist Adult Discussion (M.A.D.) Sunday School Class.

He was a Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed traveling after his retirement.

His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 6, 2017 at Grace United Methodist Church in Pekin.  Rev. Dr. Joel P. Catlin and Rev. Pam Cochran will officiate.  Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin, and also from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Thursday at the church.  Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Pekin, with military rites accorded by the United States Air Force.
