GLASFORD ~ Clara Arnett “Nettie” (Veaughn) Peters, 84, of Glasford, passed away at 5:02 p.m. Saturday, June 16, 2018 at her home with her children at her side.

Nettie was born in Creal Springs, IL to Henry and Della (Willis) Veaughn on June 24, 1933, one of four children.  She grew up in Southern Illinois and graduated from West Frankfort High School.  Nettie married Freddie Peters on July 26, 1953 in Glasford.  She worked at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria for 26 years where she was awarded Employee of the Month.  She then worked at the Glasford Senior Center for 15 years.

Surviving are one son, Al (Lisa Wubben) Peters of Delavan, one daughter, Wilma Jean (James) Pratten of Mims, FL; four grandchildren, Carrie (Luke) Wojton of East Peoria, Troy (Courtney) Pratten of Kansas City, MO, Derek Pratten of Pensacola, FL, and Sean Pratten of Pensacola, FL; five great grandchildren, Jack, Max, Myla, Henry and Sylvia; one brother, Vernon (Lois) Veaughn of West Frankfort; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one grandson, Ben Peters; one sister, Wilma Mounts; one brother, Marion “Bub” Veaughn; and one niece, Kathy Lingle.

Nettie was a very special person, always helping others.  She was a wife of 53 years to Freddie, the love of her life, while raising her children and was very proud of her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.  Nettie was a Cubs and Bulls fan and enjoyed her large collection of music boxes.

Her funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, June 21, 2018 at Glasford United Methodist Church in Glasford.  The Rev. Walter Wilkins and Rev. Ethan Carnes will officiate.  Visitation will be from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the church.  Burial will follow at Maple Ridge Cemetery in Mapleton.

Arrangements are by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory of Pekin.

Memorials may be given to Glasford United Methodist Church, Glasford Senior Center, or to the Ben Peters Memorial Scholarship fund in care of Glasford State Bank.
