EAST PEORIA ~ Cary Samuel “Sam” Taylor, Sr., 71, of East Peoria, passed away at 12:50 a.m. Friday, June 2, 2017 at RML Specialty Hospital in Hinsdale.

Born May 2, 1946 in Cheverly, MD, he was the son of Lee and Norma Jean (Samuel) Elliott, he married Sandra Nott on September 8, 1966 in Peoria. She survives.

Also surviving are his step-father, Lee Elliott of Texas; four sons, Cary Samuel Taylor, Jr. of East Peoria, Steven (Lynn Kaufmann) Taylor of Tremont, Shaun (Amber) Taylor of Pekin and Jeff (Danette) Simmons of Arkansas; one daughter, Sheanea (Tom) LaCock of East Peoria; two granddaughters, Lexie and Jenna; seven grandsons, Shane, Thomas, Connor, Brady, Owen, Dawson and Eli and three siblings, Grant (Jackie)Taylor of Texas, Noah (Mona) Elliott, Jr. of Oregon and Charlotte (Mark) Ball of Texas.

He was preceded in death by his mother; one daughter, Stephanie Taylor and two siblings, Cheryl Jackson and Hank Elliott.

Cary retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years of service as a CTRC.

He had worked at Hunter Hydo-Vac Inc. in Peoria and Andrews Lawn Care in Pekin for 10 years.

A loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, Cary enjoyed spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren.

Cary was an avid bowler in both Pekin and Peoria Leagues. He also enjoyed watching TV, especially the History Channel and was an Atlanta Braves baseball fan.

His memorial visitation will be from 5 to 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin with military rites beginning at 7 p.m. provided by Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the American Heart Association at 141 W. White Oaks Dr. #A Springfield, IL 62704.
