PEKIN ~ Betty Lou (Shearer) Wethington, 68, of Bloomington, passed away at 9:41 a.m. Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at her daughter’s home surrounded by family. She was formerly of Pekin.

She was born February 12, 1951 in Kennett, Missouri to Berry Louis and Beatrice (Williams) Shearer. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Surviving are one daughter, Crystal (Brian) Ciasnocha of Bloomington; two grandsons, Brandon Ciasnocha of Stanford and Alex Ciasnocha of Bloomington and four brothers, Rick (Zoe) Ratliff of Lake Park, Georgia, Randy (Paula) Shearer of Pekin, Gary (Jodi) Shearer of Altoona, Iowa and Tim Shearer of Pekin.

Betty was employed by the Pekin Library for 23 years, retiring in 2010 as a Technical Service Manager. She later was manager of the Fannie E. Apartments in Pekin for five years. She also was a Mary Kay Beauty Consultant since 2003 and moved to Bloomington in 2017.

She was a 1969 graduate of Pekin Community High School and was a member of William Schaefer American Legion Post #44 Ladies Auxiliary in Pekin.

Betty lived her life guided by the Serenity Prayer. She resided with her loving family in her last months and was grateful to have created great memories, that included sharing stories, good food and lots of laughs. Anyone who knew Betty, knew that she did it “her way.”

A private graveside service will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin. Pastor Steve Weber will officiate. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, July 28, 2019 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.

The family would to extend a special thank you and great appreciation to Natalie Zimmerman and the entire OSF Hospice Team, who exemplified above and beyond compassion, care, love and understanding for Betty and her family.
